We are developing a new information leaflet to help customers understand what belongings may be unsafe to keep after a fire or smoke damage incident, and we would like your feedback before it is finalised.

Why are we creating this information leaflet?

After a fire, many customers face difficult decisions about what can be safely kept and what needs to be disposed of. While fire damage is often visible, smoke and soot contamination can spread throughout a home and affect belongings even in rooms untouched by flames.

Our proposed information leaflet aims to provide clear, practical advice to help customers:

  • Understand the risks associated with smoke and soot damage.
  • Identify items that should be thrown away for health and safety reasons.
  • Recognise which belongings may be salvageable through specialist cleaning.
  • Understand the process for retrieving possessions after a fire.
  • Know what support may be available through contents insurance

We are inviting feedback on the draft information leaflet and disclaimer letter to make sure it meets the needs of customers and provides clear, practical support at what can be an extremely difficult time.

The closing date for this survey is midday on Monday 3rd August 2026. To thank you for your time giving us your feedback we will be offering a £15.00 reward to all customers who fully complete the survey.
